NEET 2026 Deleted Syllabus: NCERT Removed Topics That Still Matter

GetSchoolsInfo Editorial2 min readUpdated 3 May 2026

TL;DR for NEET 2026 aspirants: NCERT removed roughly 30 percent of Class 11-12 content in the 2022 'rationalisation' round, but NTA's NEET 2026 syllabus is a separate document — and several deleted NCERT topics remain testable. Below is a chapter-wise reconciliation. Always cross-check with the official NTA NEET 2026 information bulletin before exam day.

Every May-June since 2022, NEET aspirants ask the same question: if a topic was removed from my NCERT textbook, can I skip it for NEET? The answer is almost always no — at least not safely. Here's why, and what to actually do.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) maintains the NEET syllabus independently of NCERT's textbook revisions. The official 2026 NEET syllabus is published by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and is closer to the pre-2022 NCERT than to your current Class 11-12 books. Each year, NEET papers continue to feature questions on chapters NCERT removed — Pharmaceutical Effects of Drugs in Chemistry (Class 12) and Reproductive Health subtopics in Biology being the most-cited examples in 2024-25.

This page reconciles three lists for NEET 2026:

  1. Topics deleted from NCERT 2022-26 — straight from the official rationalisation booklets.
  2. The NTA NEET 2026 syllabus — published in the latest information bulletin.
  3. The intersection — i.e. what's gone from your textbook but still in the syllabus you're being tested on.

Verification for NEET 2026: The NTA syllabus document linked under Sources is the single source of truth on exam day. If a topic appears in our table as 'still in NEET' but was removed from the NTA 2026 syllabus, the NTA document wins — let us know via the feedback button so we can correct it.

Strategy: how to study deleted-but-still-tested topics

  1. Don't trust your school textbook alone for NEET prep. Class 11-12 books in 2025-26 are the post-rationalisation versions; they don't cover every NEET-tested subtopic.
  2. Get a copy of the pre-2022 NCERT for the four core subjects. Old editions are archived widely; many coaching institutes also republish the deleted chapters as free PDFs.
  3. Solve last 5 years of NEET papers before deciding what to skip. If a deleted topic appears in 3+ recent papers, it's still high-priority despite the textbook removal.
  4. Track changes once during prep — once at start (build awareness), once at mid-year (after NTA's December bulletin), once one month before exam (final adjustments). Don't churn on this monthly.
