JEE Main & Advanced 2026: NCERT Deleted Topics That Still Matter

GetSchoolsInfo Editorial2 min readUpdated 3 May 2026

TL;DR for JEE 2026 aspirants: NCERT removed roughly 30 percent of Class 11-12 PCM content in 2022, but the NTA JEE Main + Advanced syllabus is a separate document — and several deleted NCERT topics remain testable. Below is a chapter-wise reconciliation. Always cross-check with the official NTA JEE 2026 information bulletin before exam day.

Every year, JEE aspirants ask: if a topic was removed from my NCERT textbook, can I skip it for JEE? The answer is only sometimes. NTA maintains the JEE Main and JEE Advanced syllabi independently of NCERT's textbook revisions. The current JEE 2026 syllabus is closer to the pre-2022 NCERT than to your current Class 11-12 books.

This page reconciles three sources for JEE 2026 PCM:

  1. Topics deleted from NCERT 2022-26 — straight from the official NCERT rationalisation booklets.
  2. The NTA JEE 2026 syllabus — published in the latest information bulletin.
  3. The intersection — i.e. what's gone from your textbook but still in the JEE syllabus you're being tested on.

JEE 2026 — deletion-vs-syllabus reconciliation

Verification for JEE 2026: the NTA JEE 2026 syllabus document at jeemain.nta.ac.in is the single source of truth. If a topic appears in our table as 'still in JEE' but was removed from the NTA syllabus, the NTA document wins.

Strategy: studying deleted-but-tested topics for JEE 2026

  1. Don't trust your school textbook alone. Class 11-12 books in 2025-26 are post-rationalisation; they don't cover every JEE-tested subtopic.
  2. Get a copy of the pre-2022 NCERT for PCM. Old editions are widely archived; coaching institutes redistribute the deleted chapters as free PDFs.
  3. Solve last 5 years of JEE Main + Advanced papers before deciding what to skip. If a deleted topic appears in 2+ recent papers, it's still high-priority despite the textbook removal.
  4. Track changes once during prep — once at start, once mid-year (after NTA's bulletin in February), once one month before exam. Don't churn on this monthly.
